Elegant Evening 2018:
Honoring Outstanding Leaders in Senior Healthcare
Polly Jackson Spencer
Polly Jackson Spencer is a retired judge of Bexar County Probate Court No. One, an elected position she held from 1990 through 2013. She continues to serve as a visiting judge and provides her expertise to many legal and professional education groups. Patients such as folks with mental health issues or patients who need guardianships because of their health issues owe a debt of gratitude to Polly for all the work she’s done on their behalf. Polly would say they owe her nothing and that speaks loudly to who she is; she does what she does because it is the right thing to do.
Janie Pena Menchaca
Janie Pena is truly exemplifying the Mission of the Patient Institute by helping patients and their families navigate the Health care system. Janie is a Patient Relations Specialist, a position created uniquely for Janie who works at UT Health San Antonio, in the office of the President. Physicians and other staff who interact with Janie often speak of the personal touch she gives to most everything she does: if it be asking for a referral, getting patients an appointment, or following up to see that the appointment went well. She sets herself apart by continuously going the extra mile to assist in every way she can.
Robyn Phillips- Madson
Dr. Robyn Phillips-Madson is the founding dean of the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine. She has a long and distinguished career in academic medicine and global health, and strongly believes in the sanctity and power of the mind, body and spirit and the importance of social justice. She is a passionate advocate for all patients, student doctors, her faculty and staff, and it is a great privilege for us to honor her.
